Building Lego Orthanc – Part Ten
After the lab on the previous floor, here is the study room, probably my favorite floor of the whole tower.
About those two skulls. You’ll see in a few pictures that a lot of things are devoted to the Istari (the Five Wizards whom Saruman leads, or at least lead before turning evil). If you’re not too verse in Tolkien-lore, the five Istari were Saruman himself, Gandalf that you must certainly know, Radagast that you probably know too and two others. Their names were Alatar and Pallando. Not much is known about them. Tolkien never really described what happened to them in his books, and even in his letters he stays pretty vague. They most likely went East. Sometimes it is alluded that they actually did their share in helping fighting Sauron and weakened the Easterlings. Some other times it is alluded that they failed, and either died or were seduced by Sauron (I doubt he did though, he would have used them if he had done so).
There is also another theory, I’m not sure where it comes from, but that theory says that once Saruman turned evil, he seeked them out and killed them. Well, it seems that the Lego designers found that theory interesting enough to give us hints about it. Are those two skulls all that remains of Alatar and Pallando? Maybe, maybe not? More hints are coming though.
